Little Black Dress + Kimono

27 March 2017

Over the last several months I've tried to stay completely in tune with my personal style as my bump continued to grow. Now, at it's peak, (I hope) I can honestly say that I think I stayed well within the lines of my usual, go to styles with this pregnancy. Truth be told,  It doesn't hurt that there's way more stylish options these days. Look at THESE pieces, they're amazing. While only the dress is maternity, this kimono is giving me all sorts of boho mama feelings that I can't help but love. At 34 weeks I think it's safe to say the 'fashion energy'  is still going strong and will hopefully continue to do so all the way through week 40, which is coming way faster than I had anticipated. I guess I better get my act together and set up the room for le baby's arrival. I'm not going to lie, I've definitely slowed down over the last week and have been more tired than ever leading me to believe naps are an essential tool at this point in the game but it seems that my obsessive, nesting is going head to head with my will to sleep. Hopefully as the next few weeks progress I'll have a moment to get everything done and rest. But, let's be real is a mother's job ever really done and are we ever ready? Pssh. No.

Black and White Style With Keds

24 March 2017

Everyone should know by now how much I love Keds. Real talk, it's because you can basically wear them with any and everything {further proof, here}. Want to wear them with jeans? Easy, just throw on a tee and you're ready to go. Want to dress them up? Simple, all you need is a midi skirt and cropped top or a flirty spring dress. The pairings are endless and you never have to worry about sacrificing style for comfort. They have you covered on both accounts. They're an instant classic that everyone from your grandma to your peers know about without having to resort to a quick google search. I mean, they're over 100 years old, they had better be well-known.

So, when Keds asked me how I define my own path with the famous footwear brand, I said EASY! Their endless designs alone give me an enormous boost of creativity when it comes to styling options. But it's not just about the fashion, right? Whether it's exploring fun and unique spots in the city (in my case wandering into Dumbo for this photoshoot -I love this wall!) or snapping off pictures of the other loves of my life: food and home decor; they're along for the ride. And I never have to worry about blisters, foot ache or discomfort an hour down the road. It's a huge deal for me, especially now that this enormous bump demands comfort. The struggle is very much real at this point in the game. If someone asks me if Keds inspires me, the answer is yes, absolutely. Their ability to take a classic shape/style and make it new and fun each season is reason enough to be inspired by the iconic brand. I mean, look at these. The classic lace up sneakers that we've seen on everyone from Marilyn Monroe to Audrey Hepburn, toughened up with black leather and a smidge of glamour (the glossy patent details are almost too perfect). At the very least, they've achieved closet staple status in my case.

As for how I wore the 'Kickstart Retro Court Sneaker', I kept it simple with another closet staple, the white tee shirt, with a slip dress thrown over it, topped with a leather jacket. I picked the blue background as a nod to the iconic little blue logo on the shoes. Classic black and white with a twist for a classic shoe with a modern take.

Need a new pair of Keds? Zappos has the hook up with super fast shipping and 365 day returns. Their customer service is #1 in my book so you never have to worry about suffering a style or size miscalculation due to online shopping. It's no secret that I shop with them on a regular basis and could probably say they're my favorite e-commerce site for all the above reasons.

Denim Tunic and Over The Knee Boots

22 March 2017

Even though today's forecast is frosty the last couple of days have been an absolute dream. It's starting feel like spring just in time for my bump to need a little less coverage. I'm having hot flashes galore over here and I need light layers and dresses. Stat! Yesterday was the perfect time to throw this denim tunic back on with a pair of OTK boots, scarf and these eye catching shades from QUAY. Hello, Midas touch.

Strawberry Basil Lemonade

21 March 2017

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Brita at Target for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
After a couple of weeks of putting my Brita stream to good use I decided it was time to get creative and put together a recipe or two inspired by my new kitchen essential. Obviously water had to be the main ingredient, so I brainstormed on favorite recipes of mine that featured water. Uh, lemonade obviously, especially with spring just around the corner. Next, fruit ice cubes. These are perfect for little (or big) ones that don't necessarily love the way water tastes and need a some incentive to get that daily intake quota. Throw them together and voila! Pretty, spring flavored goodness with fresh filtered water from the Brita Stream Pitcher.

To put it together, I started things off with the ice cubes. They're super simple to make, so little guys and girls can lend a hand. I wanted to keep the ice cube flavors in theme with the lemonade so I went for strawberry, basil and lemon ice cubes. Easy and flavorful with or without the lemonade. They definitely were a colorful touch to my water and they were actually really good, who knew?! The Brita Stream was kind of a lifesaver when it came to making these because of the controlled pour top.  Easier to get the water in the tray and not on the counter with that little guy.

Fruit Ice Cubes
Silicone Ice Trays
Sliced Fruit of Choice - I used Lemon, Strawberry and Basil

First slice up the fruit into bite sized pieces so they can fit easily into the trays.

Add the fruit slices and herbs. I alternated between flavors. Some with just one fruit and some with a mix of the two. I suggest keeping it simple instead of overpowering your taste buds.

Cover with water.

Freeze until solid. I went ahead and let them set overnight.

Pop them out of the tray and into your favorite drink for a little extra oomph!

Next: the lemonade. Since we had a pretty decent sized surplus of fresh basil in the house I wanted to incorporate it and knew that it would go great with the lemons. Although I still felt like something was missing; thus, the addition of strawberries. The three together are actually kind of amazing, and this belongs on your spring recipe list. It's ridiculously refreshing.

Strawberry Basil Lemonade (Yields 4 Servings)
4 Cups of Water
1/4 C White Sugar or 1/3 C of Honey
Juice of 1-2 lemons
Fresh basil
Strawberries, sliced
Lemon, sliced for garnish

In a small sauce pan, combine 1 cup of water and sugar. Bring to a boil, stir to dissolve sugar and then let cool.

In a pitcher, add the remaining water, lemon juice, and syrup. Stir until thoroughly mixed. Add basil, sliced strawberries and lemons. Muddle together if desired.

Serve chilled with fruit ice cubes and spring sunshine.

Off The Shoulder Maxi Dress and Sneakers

20 March 2017

Happy first day of spring! Initially I had planned on posting a different outfit but the thought of not posting something bright and floral in honor of the first day of spring just felt wrong. Thus, this post was born. Honestly, I don't know what I love more, these suede sneakers in navy or the off the shoulder maxi dress that matches them to a T. Quite possibly both, especially since this maxi is non-maternity and under $100 on Zappos currently, along with a TON of Brigitte Bailey dresses that I just swooped up in hopes of sunshine and warm weather. A girl can dream, right?

Black and Navy Athleisure Bump Style

15 March 2017

Sneakers, we all wear them but I can't help but love where the athleisure trend has gone. Sure, it might be the pregnant woman talking here but who can resist a comfortable pair of shoes with stylish separates for a street ready, on-the-go look? Especially in New York City? I honestly love how sneakers aren't just for the gym anymore. They now come in unique styles, colors and textures that make even the simplest silhouettes pop. I mean, look at the attitude that oozes from the gorgeousness that is the Puma Vikky platform . That color and suede... gimme. We're all into platforms right now, right? Well, this one deserves a spot in your closet, especially if you love navy (though it also comes in grey and black!). The SOFTFoam comfort insert on this trainer is one for the books- that, and the 1 1/2" flatform. A petite girl's got to get her height in somehow.

I'm sold and haven't been able to take them off since they showed up last week. Wear them to the gym for a quick workout or to brunch with a cute little spring dress: the sky is the limit when it comes to styling options. Plus, you get cute and comfy, all day long. It's a win win if you ask me.

As far as my styling of the platform goes, I kept it simple and let them shine with a t-shirt dress, leather moto jacket and simple cross body. While it's not your average t-shirt dress, thanks to the sky high slit, it still lets the sneakers do all the talking. Popular beliefs be damned, black and navy are great pairing. The proof is in the pudding, or at least this outfit.

Grab them on or check out their athleisure worthy finds. Because if you're not already DSW obsessed then I guarantee after checking out their current finds for a fraction of the price, you'll never go back to paying full price. I know I haven't. I may be extremely guilty of constantly checking their inventory on a regular basis and may or may not have just bought another pair of sneakers and heels. Oops!
