10 Summer Beauty Hacks

During the Summer I tend to expand my beauty routine to help stay protected from the sun and beat the heat at the same time. Obviously with humidity in full check I have to think about my naturally wavy hair turning into a full on frizz storm and my skin turning into an oil slick. However, over the last several years I've found some tried and true Summer Beauty Hacks to keep me and my beauty routine in check without having to throw it all away on product. So, with a little bit of help from Veet I'm sharing my favorite 10 beauty hacks to try this Summer...

1. Chill Your Creams: Refresh your face with chilled Eye Creams and Moisturizers.

2. Braids Are Your BFF: Braids are a stylish take for when you're in between washes, trying to hide  your bangs, or just want to keep your hair out of your face. (Tutorials coming soon!)

3. Veet Fast Acting Gel Cream: I hate going to shave only to find my razor is dull, and wont get the job done. Enter my new Summer Beauty Essential; Veet's Fast Acting Gel Cream hair remover (Under $10!). Just cover your legs, underarms or even bikini line with the cream and leave on for 3 minutes and swipe away with the spatula for smooth summer ready legs. I'm officially giving up my razors for this goodness! *Always do a test spot to make sure you're not going to have a reaction*

4. Coconut Oil : Hair, Face and Food. Just a dab of coconut oil as a quick moisturizer while you're on the go or during your vacation. Use as a hair mask for silky smooth locks, or eat a teaspoon before eating a meal to help keep your bikini bod in check.

5. Apple Cider Vinegar:  A 1/4 cup when you're washing your hair can remove product built up and help protect your hair from chlorine. Also, great as a skin astringent, especially when you're battling a breakout. (More Kitchen Beauty Recipes)

6. Lemon: Pretty much the go to for just about everything from spritzing in hair before heading out into the sun for natural highlights to using lemon to fight sweat stains during the summer.  Combine Lemon and Strawberry for an awesome summer face masque or use as a natural teeth whitener. Summer Sips: Black Box Wine

During the Summer months we spend most of our time entertaining outdoors, mostly picnics in the park (it's kind of our thing) but sometimes switching it up and finding new places to thrown down our blanket and relax. So, over the weekend we headed over to Gita's for an impromptu rooftop picnic with a basket full of essentials and some new sips from Black Box Wines. It was kind of perfect, especially with the NYC backdrop. No bottle, corkscrew or glasses needed. Cleary making life a little easier, especially when transporting the picnic basket, which of course I dropped on the walk over, because you know, I'm clumsy. Obviously (and thankfully) nothing broke because we ditched the bottle for the box - which felt kind of refreshing.

Flavor wise I felt like it matched up to my bottled favorites, and they have a pretty large selection to choose from and just introduced a Pinor Noir. I was also surprised by how fresh they stayed (Black Box says up to a month, but we know it didn't stick around long enough to test that). With a price point of just under $5 for 500ml and $25 for 3L, it makes it kind of hard to go back to what I was drinking before, especially when it comes to anything outdoors. Obviously I'm already packed and ready for the 4th!

The only thing as fabulous as enjoying a high quality, award winning box of Black Box Wines is winning a $5,000 shopping spree! "Lose the Bottle" and grab your shopping bag! Enter the sweepstakes by visiting http://blackboxwines.com/

Darling Lace Jacket

summer style, cut offs, how to wear cut offs, blazer with shorts
I have a bad habit of layering my favorite ladylike blazers over my ratty trusty cut offs. There's just something about layering something so delicate over something so, well distressed. This Darling jacket (Psst. It's on sale!) is probably the newest favorite summer piece in my closet, the floral appliques just steal my heart & the color is unexpected and to die for at the same time...

Throwback Thursday Style: Summer

With Summer in full swing I've found myself in shorter hemlines and layering less than usual. Obviously beating the heat and looking stylish is no easy feat, so I'm taking a look into the last couple years of style through the summer to keep myself inspired and away from my urge to just wear cut offs every.single.day. So, here are my favorite Summer Throwback Thursday Styles from 2012 & 2013!

Scalloped Shorts and Florals

I think we've pretty much gotten the hint that I'm more than just a little obsessed with anything resembling a short suit these days, it's practically become my Summer uniform (should I blame Pharrell?). So these shorts coincidentally matching this blazer was too perfect not pair together, it was just magic. Thes scalloped edges, florals and pastels are exactly what my uniform was missing.

Blazer + Overalls

overalls, trends, style, how to wear overalls
Since snagging these overalls a few months back I've had a hard time skimming past them in my drawer, especially when it comes to my go to weekend style. I've been particularly obsessed with pairing them with my trusty white blazer. This time I went a little more casual with a tank layered under and a little color in all the right places.  Perfect for a quick go around the neighborhood on a Saturday afternoon.

More Issues Than Vogue

As far a weaknesses go I'm pretty sure that tulle skirts and graphic tees are on top of the list right on next to my obsession for shoes and tailored blazers. I literally refused to wear this StyleLately tee until this EShakti skirt arrived, it just didn't feel right without it - you know, kind of like that irrational urge to save an outfit for the right day. Which kind of brings to light how true this shirt might actually be..

On a side note, I'm kind of obsessed with all of StyleLately's tees - they're almost too good (Is it irrational that I think I need them all? No? Good.)

Lulu's Style: Beach To Street

Packing for vacation is great, especially when you're headed to the beach. You only need a few breezy dresses, swimsuits and of course a romper or jumpsuit to keep things stylish. However, I've found myself getting home from time to time, realizing I have no idea how I'm going to wear certain items again, beyond the beach. Now, this Lulu's scalloped playsuit is perfect example of something that can easily transition beyond the beach right on back to the city with just a simple layer and switch of the shoes. Here's how I wore it from the beach to the street (using items via Lulu's!)...

Floral Finds Under $20

Obviously floral isn't some huge new trend, It's around just about every Spring & Summer with the help of the pretty blooms in the park and off the beaches. However, this season I've been more on board than usual, especially with all the pieces I keep finding under the $20 mark, making it extremely hard to resist swooping them up.  Does anyone else have this problem? Well, you do now....

(Also, I totally just bought those shorts!)

The Shakti Maxi

I think we're all fully aware of my love for maxi dresses and bold prints, add them together and we're really talking, especially when Mara Hoffman is involved in the creation process (Hello perfection!). Can one ever really resist anything with that woman's name on it, really? Her bohemian esthetic just speaks to me, but we know this already. So obviously it comes as no surprise when I tell you how much I love this maxi, and how I don't want to take it off, ever. And it's only going to get worse better once I get back to the city...
