Between The Lines

31 May 2011

I hope everyone had a relaxing (and safe) Memorial Day, and is happily back at 'work' today. I luckily get to take the day and travel to Orlando for a little checkup and to a little shopping, obviously, what would be a road trip without retail therapy.  I will say that one thing I miss about not living in the great 'metropolis of Orlando' is having an array or stores at my disposal, whereas in Sarasota it's a little tricky to shop without the 'trendier' favorites of mine. Wish Me LUCK XO!

Flat Foot

30 May 2011

And no your eyes aren't playing tricks on you, I am wearing flats today...But only because Aiden (the soon to be 2yr. old) 'borrowed' one of my wedges and made it so I couldn't find it in time for our little outing. The joys of having toddlers, I'm starting to understand why they say it's like living with 'little drunk people'.

And since the wedges were my 'running in heels' option, I had to settle for flat sandals, which actually worked out perfectly. I guess it's ok to take a break from heels every now and then, right?

Little Details

27 May 2011

You ever have those day when your outfit looks amazing in the mirror and then you go out and it looks completely different (or in my case, photographs different) than you thought it looked in the mirror? Deceptive, those mirrors are, I tell you.

I blame the flash on the camera for my current faux pas, since it completely washed out my pink vest, which I love by the way, just not with this dress anymore. Next time I'll opt for something more form fitting and not so voluminous on top.

Ps. Happy Friday! XO

LBD - Long Black Dress

26 May 2011

I've been searching for the perfect black maxi dress for months, and have yet to find one. Though I did find this LBD from Marshall's that will serve as a stand in until I find one I adore. This one was a fabulous $20, but after I got it home and wore it once the top started slipping down, no go.  However, there is an opening in the top which is perfect for hooking a necklace, reinventing the dress from strapless to halter.

24 May 2011

This season I've been obsessing about all things color, which is more or less a new thing because my go to colors consist of neutrals and well, black. And with my new found obsession comes favorites, particularly coral, green, purple and yellow (which isn't shown). Throw'm together and it's a match made in color heaven...

What are your current color favorites for the season?

Curves

It amazes me how a woman bounces back after pregnancy, and how amazing it feels to embrace the new found curves (for the second time). I don't know if it's hormones or baby fever that makes me feel more womanly with my curvier figure, but either way I'm loving how some things are fitting me these days, this dress is case in point. I think this is the only time where women feel 'ok' with having a little extra 'something' there and love it, who knows, maybe I'm just glad to not have that extra 35lbs weighing me down anymore...

Kushyfoot Flats-To-Go

22 May 2011

It's no secret that I live in heels, but occasionally I end up out and about in an extremely uncomfortable pair of shoes that leave me subjected to the blisters and discomfort, with no alternate in site. What we do for fashion, Right? I guess it's time to look for an emergency alternate...I know we've all heard about Flats-To-Go, compact ballet flats that come folded in a tiny little carrying case, ideal for ladies on the go who need a break from their heels or uncomfortable footwear.
Which I was skeptical of at first because I'm not the biggest fan of flats, but Kushyfoot's Flats-To-Go has won me over (thanks for Lipton Publicity) with their soft, and flexible faux leather flats that have a unique, non skid 3 dimensional wavy sole that cushions and massages the foot as you walk. Not only are they as compact as they say, fitting perfectly and neatly in your purse, they're under $10. A lifesaver and a steal (which can be purchased at Duane Reade Stores and Kushyfoot.com).
Plus Kushyfoot Flats-To-Go come in an array or colors, like Black, Silver, Gold and now Snakeskin and Cream Perforated, making them both trendy and practical, for even the biggest fashionista. I happened to  receive the snakeskin, which is a fabulous alternate to simple black and can be paired with just about any style.  I paired mine with a flowing black maxi dress for a quick trip to the store and got a handful of compliments, asking where I got those 'cute shoes' during the trip. All in all, I would absolutely recommend these flats to anyone who needs a quick break from their fabulous heels (and footwear).

*I received these flats for the sole purpose of the review, and as always my opinions are 100% true and my own.

Prep School

20 May 2011

After seeing this dress in my closet (worn here) I realized I had the perfect start for this run of Blogger's Do It Better, which I've been itching to join in on for awhile now. Luckily, I get to test the waters on the preppy side of things, which I don't do very often...

And wouldn't you know my dress had a tie already attached, guess it was meant to be...
...and I thought it couldn't be done.

Layering For Summer

When Summer comes to mind, I think sun, sand, brightly colored dresses and picnics. Followed by a cool summer breeze at night, which calls for ideal coverups like light cashmere sweaters  and the 'American classic' denim jackets, not to mention my personal favorite the utility jacket. Whether you're sipping lattes at a popular cafe or cozying up to your honey next to a beach bonfire there's always a place to add some layers.
Layers not only serve as the extra needed warmth, but as another statement piece in your ensemble, try adding a bright boyfriend blazer to top off a simple dress for that extra pop of style. If the heat doesn't allow for wiggle room as far as jackets and cardigans go, opt for a fabulous vest (which you've seen me do, over and over again). Vests are equally as versatile, try a tailored vest belted over a voluminous skirt or one of the knit varieties over a flowing dress for a little bohemian flair. Have fun with it, remember you can always take it off...
