Sheer Genius

With spring here it has me asking for more colors and a little more shimmer, which worked out perfectly with this amazing sheer tunic and a pop of color from the purple pumps. Topping it off with a light jacket and gold accents, making the perfect errand running - lunch date outfit.

Best Dressed : Academy Awards 2011

Since the Academy Awards is the awards of awards, it's no surprise that the stars brought their best looks to the table with striking purple tones, lace, sequins and of course, red.
Here are my favorites from the red carpet...
Mila Kunis & Cate Blanchett
I love Mila's plunging neckline and the lavender on this gorgeously draped dress, paired with simple accessories and simple yet chic hair. Cate, again went outside the box with this daring yet colorful dress and I love it, especially the back.
Mandy Moore & Michelle Williams
Gold Check, Sequins Check, Tulle Check - all the makings of a perfect red carpet dress. Whereas Michelle went with an amazing body skimming dress that went perfectly with her golden pixie and natural make up.
Scarlett Johansson & Natalie Portman
I love the idea of a lace gown, even better if its in a deep fuchsia/purple. Everything about Scarlett's look screams bombshell, from her tousled bob and smokey eyes to her form fitting lace dress. Natalie is glowing in this violet gown that's perfectly draped around her growing bump, it's a major do for pregnancy!
Valentino & Anne Hathaway in Valentino
I love that Anne and Valentino walked the carpet together, they're the perfect pair, especially in his stand out red dress. Ah-mazing!

Tangy Key Lime Pie

With the warmer weather (and pregnancy hot flashes) gracing my presence, it has me begging for something cool and refreshing to satisfy my sweet tooth. Luckily my husband came home the other day with a bag full of amazing key limes he got from a tree at my parents, which is the best part about living in Florida, fruitful citrus trees at your beck and call.

So of course my knee jerk reaction was to make a homemade key lime pie, and who knew it was simple to do. Well um, kind of - if you get past the trying to juice 12 itty bitty key limes for a 1/2 cup of juice. Other than that it's a breeze with little prep and baking time, plus you only need a pie crust, condensed milk, eggs and of course, key lime juice.

And the results were incredible (I even surprised myself), it was the perfect amount of tang and zest in a 9in'' refreshing pie that's perfect for those warm spring and summer days. Try it, you will not be sorry :)

Key Lime Pie
4 Large Egg Yolks
1 14oz Can Sweetended Condensed Milk
1/2 C Key Lime Juice (approx. 12 key limes or 4 Persian Limes, do not use bottled juice)
9'' Graham Cracker Pie Crust

Preheat Oven to 350
Juice Key Limes (I found that using a garlic press is an ideal candidate for the process)
Next, mix the egg yolks until they are thick and light yellow. Do not over mix.
Add sweetened condensed milk, mix on 'low' adding 1/2 of the lime juice. Once the juice is incorporated add remaining lime juice, continue to mix until blended (just a few seconds).
Pour the mixture into pie shell and bake for 12 mins on 350 to set the yolks and kill any salmonella.

Chill until served, then top with whipped cream and enjoy.

Spot The Steal - Charles By Charles David "Pure"

You may remember my post a couple weeks ago about Natalie Portman wearing Charles By Charles David's Pure pump, as it turns out sizing is quite limited and they're selling out fast which prompted me to find an equally fabulous look-a-like. And that I did, even better is that the "Satin Platform Pump" from GoJane is only $20 (and also comes in black, orange and lime). So I think I might be checking into those because my size is sold out of the "Pure"....

What do you think?

Spot The Steal - Dolce Vita "Jade"

Target has some fabulous designer inspired footwear this season, from wedges inspired by Cynthia Vincent's collaboration to clogs that are dead ringers for Anthropologie's. The shoe that has caught my eye is the Dolce Vita Jade Look-a-like for $29.99, it's practically identical with little differences. It's the perfect spring shoe, and I'm loving the zipper detail and the caged look.

Have you gotten shoes from Target lately?

Dear Daisy

I've had a sheer fondness for this amazing daisy pin that I inherited from my great-grandmother years ago, and it hasn't been until recently that I started incorporating into my wardrobe (seen here & here). It's the perfect pop of sunshine that will brighten any look, and my day :) .

Simple Staples

Trench coats are one of those closet staples that are always in style, whether your beating the rain or need a little cover from the cool breeze it's a piece that belongs in every closet. Now, of course there are new takes on the trench every season, whether it's a ruffle here or studding there, we're always looking for new and improved 'takes' on a classic item. And though I have some 'updated' trenches, I always love going back to my simple classic. Pairing it with a dress or skinny jeans and platforms for a little errand running, it always seems to work.

Spring Fling

With spring knocking on my door it seems as if it's time to bring out some serious color, perhaps in the form of this amazingly tie dyed dress, which is clearly statement piece in itself. And since a cool breeze hits me ever now and then this knit sweater is a perfect fit bringing out the grey tones in the dress (that I didn't notice until after I took the pictures) while keeping me warm.
Happy Spring to my fellow warm weather readers, and for my still cold weather readers...It's coming!

Love Layers

I hope everyone had a fabulous weekend, I luckily got to spend my day at the beach (and getting my computer screen trashed by my toddler, yeah that's going to cost me...) yesterday  - it was a whopping 78 degrees. Hellloooo Spring, as for today it's a little cooler so I brought out the safari trench and tights, which if it heats up I plan on removing and replacing my boots with pumps. It seems it's warming up just about everywhere, with a handful of exceptions.

Perfect Chocolate Cupcakes with Chocolate Frosting

Last weekend, on the night before Valentine's day I racked my brain on what I was going to get for my husband for the occasion. I narrowed it down to baking since that's something he would more than likely enjoy the most. However, being that it was close to closing time to most of the stores in the area I had limited resources to bake something fabulous, or so I thought. Little did I know that I actually had everything I needed after seeing a lonely box of unsweetened cocoa sulking in the corner of my fridge. Alas, chocolate cupcakes ( I know, I know - chocolate again)
Perfect Chocolate Cupcakes (30 Cupcakes)

2 C Sugar
1 3/4 C All Purpose Flour
3/4 C Unsweetened Cocoa
1 1/2 Tsp. Baking Powder

1 Tsp. Salt
2 Eggs
1 C Milk
1/2 C Vegetable Oil
2 Tsp. Vanilla Extract
1 C Boiling Water

-Preheat Oven to 350F -

Line 2 1/2 inch muffin cups with paper baking cups (less mess!). Combine dry ingredients in a large bowl, mix, add eggs, milk, oil and vanilla. Beat on medium speed for 2 mins. Stir in boiling water - batter will be thin.

Pour into baking cups to 2/3 full and bake for 22-25 mins (or until toothpick comes out clean). Cool Completely and top with Chocolate Frosting - recipe below.
Chocolate Frosting
1 Stick (1/2 C) Butter
2/3 C Unsweetened Cocoa
2 1/2 C Powdered Sugar

Spot The Steal - Diane von Furstenburg Opal Wedge Updated*

This wedge gives me chills, and it's not just because spring is practically among us! I love the craftsmanship of these amazingly detailed wedges by DVF, who clearly knew exactly what she was doing when she made these gorgeous babies (you may remember seeing them here). If only they weren't $300...
Don't fret these fabulous look-a-likes from are, plus they're under $25!

Look For Less - Victoria Beckham

I love this print, it's fun yet not too over the top making it perfect for just about everyone and for spring. Victoria styled it perfectly with bold blue platforms, oversized sunglasses and a fabulous bag all while strutting around with her son. Good As Gold

Apparently bowling balls are the new accessory, like it's cousin the statement necklace it has the ability to distract from unwanted attention elsewhere, which is great until you don't want to embrace the bowling ball any longer. None the less, dressing it can be quite tricky and requires a little patience (ok a lot, and maybe some tissue for when the tears come because some things just don't fit anymore). Most of the time a great tunic will do the trick, throw on some stretch jeans and your off strutting your fabulous 30 lb. bowling ball.

Have a Great Weekend ;)

Target Go International Designer Collective Dresses Revealed

With the "Collective Dress Collection" set to launch March 13th (in select stores and online, consisting of 34 dress from past Go International designers, priced between $24.99-$44.99), sneak peaks are all around the web which has me wondering how much of  you are actually hyped on the 5 year anniversary collection. Don't get me wrong, I loved most of those collaborations when they came out and yes I sadly missed out on some of them, but I'm not exactly sure how sold I am on re-launching something that's already been released in the last year (Zac Posen and Tucker). I will however say that I'm interested in seeing how it's sells and hoping that the Jovovich-Hawk Polka Dot Dress goes on clearance so I can scoop it up, otherwise I'm sorry to say I'll probably be sitting this one out.

What do you think about the collection?
