Gifts for Him Under $50

I don't know about you, but I have issues when it come to shopping for the guy each year. Sure, he's easy enough, I guess. He's a practical guy and extremely utilitarian. He rarely wears the 'nice clothes' I get him {in fear of the boys getting them dirty} and tends to already have everything he wants, to an extent. I often find myself buying things as a joke, but in most cases he'll call my bluff and wear it. He's currently wearing a plaid trapper hat that I foolishly put in his hands a few months back...

So, this year I tapped him to help a girl out this season because let's be real we're polar opposites and while I know him well, I don't always hit a home run when it comes to gifting. Now, my dad on the other hand, that's always a win.

With that being said,  Mr. TfDiaries and I put together these gift worthy gifts for the man in your life, for under $50.

Ask Megan: Fashion Career Advice

Over the last several months, a lot of you have reached out asking for advice on the best way to seek a career in fashion. Most, if not all replies are to encourage you to find out what you want to do and what interests you the most. Do you want to be a stylist, a buyer, writer or go from a more marketing stand point? Interning is the key to helping you find that out, it gives you the chance to really pay attention to how things work, and how things are made. In most cases interns wear many hats so that helps you pick out what you do and don't like with each job. Also, do your research and always be willing to learn. Know what's trending online, keep up on street style, and even start a blog {tumblr or pinterest} of your own. It helps potential employers gauge your interests and style to determine if you're a good fit. Creativity and confidence is always key.

A great place to start that search, who also happened to recently win the 2014 Gallup Great Workplace Award {the only fashion retailer to receive it}, is ANN INC. Who is responsible for brands we know and love such as Ann Taylor, LOFT and Lou & Grey. Ann INC. offers awesome opportunities company wide, from design and styling to merchandising, sales and management throughout the country. They even have a handful of internship opportunities to help point you the right direction of where you want to go in fashion. Ann Inc. is all about supporting and celebrating the richness of women's full, multi-dimensional lives. You can find more information at, and see how ANN INC. inspires and connects with each other to help women put their best selves forward every day.

With all that being said ANN INC. has graciously offered one lucky reader a $50 Ann Taylor Gift Card. {Enter & find rafflecopter & details below}

Seriously Distracted

You might remember this picture popping up on your Instagram feed a little ways back when I was stealing a moment for myself at the fruitwater Seriously Distracted party with POPSUGAR and one of my favorite gals, Gita. Who doesn’t love fun cocktails and 90‘s dance music spun by Harley Viera-Newton? Obviously stealing a moment for myself isn’t always the easiest task, but when I do I definitely savor it. Whether it’s hitting the town with fruitwater {I’m obsessed with the fizzy lemonade}, getting a mani/pedi or sitting down with my morning latte to flip through a magazine for only a few minutes, I’m all about finding that moment to myself. After all my sanity depends on it, right?

And if you’re looking to steal a moment at the computer {or phone} tune into POPSUGAR on Tuesdays to catch a giggle with their new sketch comedy show, Seriously Distracted. I’m inclined to favor the Tinder episode with Amy Sedaris, but you can decide which one you love the most. Check it out.

So, with that being said, Follow fruitwater on Instagram at @fruitwaterbev and submit a photo showing the world how you make the most of your day by stealing a moment for yourself for your chance to win a $1,000 prize towards your next stolen moment! Make sure to include #stealamomentsweeps and #fruitwater in your Instagram submission.

Now go steal that moment! Xo.

Dear Hair,

To kick things off this week I've teamed up with L'Oréal to write a letter to my hair, because let's be real, things with our hair tend to get complicated. Check out the video version below and write your own letter to your locks!
Dear Hair,

We've had our ups and downs over the last 20 something years but I think it's safe to say, I love you. Sure, you tormented me through middle school presenting that mortifying 6th grade picture of what I can only be explain as a frizzed out afro. It's ok, I returned the favor years later by bleaching you {horribly} with an at home kit, which then resulted in tons of money lost, more bleaching and a pixie. I was ok with that, it gave me the confidence I needed as a teenager. You and I have had somewhat of a love hate relationship over our lifetime together, me tugging too hard while brushing these easily tangled locks you were kind enough to give me, but you made it up to me by blessing me with the naturally beachy waves that I've finally come to embrace. Things can't always be perfect between us, but thankfully I've had some help along the way to tame the uncontrollable frizz that sometimes occurs. Thanks to L'Oreal Advanced Hair Care Smooth Intense Frizz Taming Serum we no longer have that issue and you seem smoother with less fly aways. If I've been bad to you I make it up to you by treating you to Advance Haircare Total Repair 5 Damage Erasing Balm and we make up.

I like when you're happy which is why I often find myself trying new things with you, though I continuously make the bad choice of bangs. Thankfully we some how find a way to work it out with only a few bumps along the way. We've been through practically every color in the book, and have had plenty of mishaps over the years but it's helped me realize how much I really appreciate you and I wouldn't want you to be any other way.

Ps. Do you think you can grow a little it faster? I'm really over these bangs. Xo.

We ladies know that not all locks are created equal, and so does L’Oréal Paris. With the Advanced Haircare line, Glam girls have the power to pick their shampoo, conditioner and treatment based on their specific strand needs, taking their tresses to luxurious levels. Beautiful hair has never been more personal.

Ray-Ban Aviator & Rakani Giveaway

Obviously the best way to kick off the week {because let's be real, I hate Mondays!} is with a Giveaway. So, I've teamed up with some lovely ladies and these awesome brands to get your week off to a fabulous start! Don't forget to check out all the gals on the list and have a great week! Xo.

Blanket Cape

You might remember seeing this cape in last week's Fall essential round up with a few other awesome finds that I just picked up. Truth be told, I have to say this piece has quickly become my favorite, one because well, it's a cape so there's that and two, it's not plaid. While I love a good plaid piece, I've found my self stocking up on too much tartan, so outside the box I go with this southwest {esque} blanket cape, which turns out to go with just about everything including my new booties.

Better in Black

Most days are spent commuting to different parts of the city on shopping excursions, event pop ins, research and now, school pick ups. For most of which, comfort is key, but then again, when isn't it? One of my easy no fail pairings {that works all day, everyday} is my leather jacket, you know, the one you've seen practically non-stop since I acquired it last year, and my cozy, almost worn through the knees black skinnies. Sure, I mix it up with the layers and the shoes but I'm not one to resist the temptation of an all black ensemble. This one seemed all too perfect with the addition of my new booties, that were made even better because they can be worn a couple of ways.

50 Fall Hats Under $50

I think it's safe to say that I have a healthy obsession with hats, especially when it comes to sporting them during the fall and winter months {we know I'm an equal hat opportunist year round}. But, let's be real, once the snow starts falling there is little to zero effort going into my hair. You know you're with me. Lucky for us they've become somewhat of an essential in Fall and Winter dressing. Whether you're giving your look a little bit more edge with a slouchy beanie or opting for a touch of bohemia with an oversized fedora, chances you're doing it, and in style. So, naturally with all must have accessories comes the need to stock up, and stock up we will and on a budget. Check out my favorite hat picks for Fall and Winter, and for under $50!

Happy Hat Wearing!

Stripes + Maxi

While purging my 'skirt' drawer last week, I stumbled upon this beauty nestled into the back corner, which immediately reminded me how much I actually love wearing this floaty number.  Which means, I obviously had to wear it at least one more time before the temperatures got too crazy. {Which is pretty much right now.} The addition of the striped cropped top {that I've worn with practically everything this season} and the moto jacket made it the perfect pairing before stuffing it right on back into my drawer for the winter.

Coat Colorblocking

Now that it's become apparent that I can no longer protest coats this season I've started stocking up on the new additions to help spice things up when the "Winter rut" comes along. Thankfully I've had quite a few options in the budget friendly department including this colorblocked number from Sears {they also have camel & black}. This one happens to be under $50! It was the perfect pop of color for topping over this black and white textured sweater and asymmetrical mini skirt.

This Week...

After being down with the flu for a few weeks I finally started feeling better at the end of the week. Hopefully it stays out of my system for awhile because I was not loving the runny nose & coughing. Thankfully I had a few things to distract me while I was working from my bed, one was the bright & pretty floral macbook skin I just acquired from 9th & Elm. Now, my macbook has a little update {it's ancient} and there's a whole lotta color coming from my desk.
I also put one of my notecards from last month's PopSugar Must Have box to good use, overlooking my desk in a frame {find} from TJMAXX.
And while Thursday night was ridiculous on the weather front it was warm and toasty at Caldrea's Garden Party, the new Basil Blue Sage scent is heavenly.
And no week is complete without a hop, skip and a jump over to Central Park to see the last of the leaves before Winter hits.

Stripes on Stripes

Since snow is expected this weekend, I figured this was my last ditch effort to bare a little skin before I have to pack on the layers to keep my self from freezing to death. However, nothing quite says peace out bare legs (and midriff) like a little stripe on stripe action with the addition of a pop of pink in the hair department, right? Here's to Spring {in 5ish months}.
