Springing into Trousers

2011 is all about ladies trousers, whether they're high waisted, cropped, or long and loose they're all making a huge statement this spring. With the 70's back in full force this season it makes perfect sense that variations of the trouser have made their way to the runways.
With long and loose versions seen on Celine, Max Azria & Jil Sander's in fluid fabrics like jersey and printed silks paired with loose blouses for a slouchy yet uber chic no-fuss look. Bringing the looks into your closet from the runways shouldn't be too difficult as long as you keep in mind your body type and proportions, for example petite frames should lean toward high waisted fits with a more snug fitting top to avoid looking bulky.
Cropped trousers and culottes made a huge appearance on D&G, Mulberry, and Stella McCartney's runways in bold prints and light weight fabrics with various lengths starting below the knee to longer mid-calf versions. Paired with snug tops, extreme wedges and espadrilles, they're bound to make a 70's flashback statement. When opting for real world version remember fabric is key, especially when you want to avoid the dreaded gaucho feel.
Last but certainly not least is high waisted full leg trousers and flares making statements in bold fabrics and colors on Alice and Olivia, Badgely Mischka, Marc Jacob's catwalks. Luckily this is the most wearable trend with a nod to Studio 54 days and will be sticking around all through fall. Styles range from straight to slightly flared, and are paired with sexy feminine blouses, platforms and light weight sweaters for a feminine feel making it easy to take looks right off the runway. So it might be time to take a quick break from your trusty skinnies and try on a pair of flares...
