When it comes to holidays and cocktails, I feel that, in order to concoct something fabulous, it has to be festive and centered around my favorite seasonal flavors. So when Christmas comes to mind, I immediately think of gingerbread! That rich, sharp flavor from the mix of ginger, nutmeg, and molasses is bound to warm up any winter night.
So, after a little brainstorming, I decided that my best bet would be to try to recreate that flavor in the form of a martini. I opted for Pinnacle® Cinnamon Roll Flavored Vodka, and it was the perfect fit. It flawlessly integrated with my homemade gingerbread syrup and cream, creating a smooth, flavorful (brag-worthy) holiday cocktail.
Gingerbread Martini
1 oz. Pinnacle® Cinnamon Roll Flavored Vodka
1/2 cup milk or heavy cream
1 to 2 Tbsp. gingerbread syrup (recipe below)
A glassful of ice
Gingerbread men and sprinkles to garnish
Gingerbread Syrup
2 cups water
1 to 1 1/2 cups granulated sugar
1/4 cup diced fresh ginger
1 Tsp. vanilla extract
2 Tbsp. cinnamon
1 Tbsp. allspice
1 Tbsp. nutmeg
First things first: If you’re going homemade on the gingerbread men, make those first and let them cool before moving on to the drink. Since we’re using them as a garnish to sit on the edge of the glass, be sure create a slot to make it easier for them to stay put.
Next, the gingerbread syrup! Combine all the ingredients in a pot and bring to a boil. Stir and reduce to low. Let simmer for 20 minutes, remove from heat, and let cool.
Strain out the ginger pieces and get it ready for your martini!
Now, fill up a shaker (or travel coffee mug with a leak-proof lid) with ice. Add vodka, milk, and gingerbread syrup. Put the top on, and give it a good shake for about 20 seconds.
After you coat the rim of the glass with rainbow sprinkles, strain in the concoction and top off with the gingerbread-man garnish. Voila! Gingerbread martini. Enjoy.
