Summer Go-To

Obviously, I've been wearing a couple of these items more than just a few times this Summer. There's just something about the cozy worn in fit of these shorts and the ease (and style) of the sandals that make lounging so appealing, which lead to the multiple wears this season. The whole relaxed (Summer) style has pretty much become my go to for the city, beach, and now, the mountains for our brief stint here this week. Also, It doesn't hurt that I snagged a few basic fundamentals (i.e bras) from Kohl's before we headed out of town last week. I mean, they were having a super sale and bra fittings were happening so I jumped on the opportunity and stocked up (you can check out and see when your local fittings are,  here.) like any normal person would, right? Sometimes all you need is the right bra, well, and pair of shoes to really make an outfit. Vacation or not.

Garnier Texture Tease: Two Ways

Since I've been making some major changes with my hair recently I've been looking for new ways to play with my almost dirty hair (since my usual side braid isn't going to cut it anymore because of the lack of length). Let's be real, I'm never in a rush to wash my hair but having bangs makes it difficult to hold out for more than 3 days. We have a very love hate relationship my bangs and I.  Usually after the first day if they're looking heavy, off they go into a braid. But, it's starting to get a little dull just braiding the bangs off to the side.

So, when I teamed up with Garnier to create a look, I immediately knew it was going to be targeted towards my two day old hair and my pesky bangs, with a good amount of texture. Which obviously meant reaching for Garnier's De-Constructed Line, most importantly De-Constructed Texture Tease (their new dry touch finishing spray. Guys, it's magic). So with that being said, I created two looks to double up on for those days that you're just not in the mood to wash & re-style.

First, off I started with day old waves (feel free to touch them up with your wand) and gave them a little tease.

Next, came the braids and a spritz or two of Garnier De-Constructed Texture Tease to give a little holding and reworking power.

Pull the two braids loosely to the back of your head and pin into place. Spritz a little more Texture Tease and Voila!

A little Retro and a lot volume.

Now, sometimes half up just wont cut it. So, with a few alterations and additions we can throw it into a messy low bun to give it a whole new look.

Pull the remaining hair into a low pony tail, twist and pin. Voila! Garnier De-Constructed Texture looks, times two.

Beauty Break: Sassoon Salon

I’ve always felt like my hair was kind of my thing. The messy, almost unruly waves have always gone hand in hand with my eclectic stylings. But since moving back to New York I’ve definitely found myself playing with new styles and textures, to refine my style. So, when Sassoon invited me to the salon last week for a cut and blowout with one of their greats there was no way could I pass up the amazing opportunity. I almost couldn’t wait to sit in the chair and watch Martyn (a Senior Creative Director who has been with Sassoon for over 30 years!) work his magic, obviously I gave him free range to do whatever he wanted and knew it would be perfect.

After a good wash and treatment (and a quick sip of Prosecco, naturally), I sat down in the chair and we discussed length, I was pretty much ready to part with a good chunk, so off went 4’’.  After, he tailored each layer perfectly to my bone structure and a face shape, giving my haircut just the right amount of personalization. Finally, switching things up with a sleek and straight blow out to show off each layer. I obviously loved it, and it’s just as great when my waves are in full spring. It looks like I just found a new home at Sassoon. (psst. you wont believe how reasonable their prices are with cuts starting at $98, and color at $90 - which is pretty unbelievable for city prices.)
I also got a sneak peek at the Autumn Winter 2014 Optica collection that releases next month with a series of iconic looks that emulate Sassoon’s technique. The collection embraces elegant androgyny while incorporating dimensions through light, depth and shadow in the cuts, colors and styling. It’s stunning to say the least, and almost makes me want to go back and hack off another 6 inches of hair...

Check it out...

For The Home: The Bouqs

For me fresh flowers make a world of difference in my house and on my desk, I always feel way more productive and can't help but love looking a the beautiful pop of color from day to day. So when The Bouqs introduced themselves to me I couldn't resist trying them out. The Bouqs is actually a more sustainable, eco-friendly company that cut and ship straight from the farm on a volcano in South America, it's kind of awesome.  Plus the bouquets are pretty gorgeous, and come in a wide variety of flowers and price points. I was lucky enough to get two, Desperado (the rose) & Milkshake (Freesias), both were equally awesome though the freesias are a little smaller than the roses so keep that in mind if you're looking for a fuller bouquet. Otherwise, I'm a fan and I'm going to continue using them for special occasions, mainly because you have to order them 5-7 days in advance, since you know, they ship from South America.

Who do you get your flowers from?

Buxom Mascara Bar Giveaway

If you haven't caught on just yet, I'm pretty obsessed with the entire Buxom beauty line since it's introduction (to me) last month. One of my favorites actually just launched a couple of weeks ago, and while I'm late on sharing, it's definitely worth the wait.

I'm sure by now you've at least heard of  Buxom's first ever customizable mascara bar, with seven sexy brushes specialized to thicken, volumize, curl, define, lengthen, and lift lashes. Finally you get to decide on which brush works best for you without sacrificing the formula (and it's a good one!), I'm personally a Thick and Defined kind of girl - the flexi bristles are amazing on my fine but long lashes.

So, with that being said I'm giving one lucky gal their very own Buxom Mascara Bar to try and decide which is their favorite. Trust me, you're going to love it. If you can't wait, you can buy it here

Summer Sandals

With Summer slowly coming to an end I've been reaching for some of my favorite oldies but goody pieces, this dress for instance was perfectly updated with these amazing sandals and extra large tote for a day and then night (movie!) in the park.

When it comes to layering I'm always trying new ways to throw on a little something extra to my ensemble. So when I acquired this jacket I immediately knew it was time to go all blue. Well, with the exception of my shoes and bag. It's the perfect ensemble for embracing the earliest days of Fall...

These past few months I've found myself embracing the more sporty side of things, I'm actually wearing sneakers, I'm throwing on baseball caps and I'm even taking track pants and adding them (stylishly) to my routine. I don't know if it's the male influence in the house or just a slow change of heart but I'm kind of loving my it. I think its safe to say that today's outfit definitely falls under this recent influence, and I'm totally ok with it.

Graphic Tee + Leopard Pencil Skirt

When it comes to graphic tees I think I've hit the point of no return, I literally wear them with everything. Which isn't really a bad thing, I'm agreeable to it, but still, I'm obsessed. I'm especially fond of new to me brand, Street People Atelier. Which has an awesome selection of NYC lovin' shirts. You know, because I love NYC.

I now have three, which I shamelessly wear around this awesome city like a potential tourist. This one is kind of my favorite, and was absolutely perfect paired with my ridiculously old (but still very awesome and worth every single penny)  Dolce leopard pencil. Made for it, right?

Black and Brown

With temperatures quickly dropping I'm wasting no time and have started to throw on my favorite {leather} layers. Obviously this jacket is the perfect addition to this adorable little black dress and heels.

Crop Top + Midi Skirt

Over the weekend David dragged took me to the wrap party for the movie he's been on location with for the last 6 weeks. Joking aside, it was a pretty good time, but I think I was more interested in getting some time alone with him. Now, I know this skirt has already made an appearance or two in the last couple months I figured trading out it's typical pairings for a cropped top and lavender lipstick made it ok for another go around. Plus the addition of the scarf attached the bag gave it an extra pop to keep things printed and purple...

Red Leopard

With the weather feeling almost like Fall lately, I figured it was time to start thinking ahead into the cooler months and putting together my must have list for the upcoming season. One of the top contenders on the list, next to a new moto jacket (in a color, or two), is bold prints & swing dresses. Thankfully, I have this dress to hold me over until some new additions make their way into my closet. I love the mod meets grunge kind of feel this look gets with the addition of the booties, and the reduction of 4'' of hair (which you may have noticed yesterday). What are you looking forward to for fall?
