The Four P's Of Decorating

It’s been around two months since we moved into our new place, and I can honestly say we have a long way to go with decor. I’m not even exaggerating when I say there is nothing hung on our walls yet. Apparently life loves to get in the way, inevitably. So for the next couple months I’ve made it my mission to get things settled and done, which reminded me of some of my mom’s favorite tips when it comes to decorating. She always told me there’s three “P’s” to use as a rule of thumb to make decor pop and they are Plants, Pictures and Pillows. But, for me I think there’s actually four, with the fourth being Prints, naturally. She’s a little more on the conservative side so I won’t hold her to it for skipping out on the last.

So I decided it’s time to put those rules to work and get inspired. Since we all know I love prints I always make an effort to do a little (or a lot of) print mixing, which you’ve seen here. For beginners throw a couple print pillows on your couch and follow up with a bold throw or rug, perhaps polka dot and chevron pairings? If you’re really feeling ‘crazy’ layer up on print pillows like these. Kind of killed two birds with one stone...(photo credit)
Next, we're going to need some pictures and a gallery wall is one heck of a stylish (and popular way) to go these days. Just remember to bring the level, no one likes a crooked picture. (photo credit)
Finally finish off with Plants. Now, I'm a bonafide plant killer in these parts, I just can't keep them going, especially Orchids. But lucky for me, my husband knows a thing or two about keeping these essentials alive, and even lets me water them every now and then. These (below) have been my easiest plants to care for, you can even clip them and put them in a vase and they'll grow.
Do you get inspired by the 4 P's?
