New York City Salon To Try: Marie Lou & D

If you've been reading along for awhile you might have noticed I bounce around from salon to salon looking for the best of the best when it comes to my hair. Some winning me over in an instant and well, the others leaving me nothing short of a trainwreck. Obviously the latter isn't the case when it comes to Marie Lou & D in NYC. The French owned salon located in the middle of Soho is nothing short of a dream or what you would imagine any salon in Paris to be like. The stylist's are dressed to the nines, the inviting mid-century furniture against an exposed brick back drop and no shortage of fresh coffee makes for an incredible experience whether you're just popping in for a mani/pedi or spending the afternoon adding an extra pop of color to your 'do'.

I met up with creative colorist at Marie Lou & D, Joseph Mullen to amp up my fiery locks for summer and was enamored by the outcome. After spending some time talking about my loves (and dislikes) about my color, up keep and expectations we decided to brighten things up a la Christina Hendricks in Mad Men (hello, bombshell!).  Joseph intensified the look by adding more golden copper reflects making a brighter, more bold version of my usual hue. Honestly, I couldn't love it more.

As for the very voluminous blow out courtesy of Top Stylist, Hugo, that was just as much of a work of art as creating the brilliant copper you currently see me sporting. Using a round brush, some clips, blow dryer, and curling iron, Hugo created voluminous curls to go hand in hand with my new hair 'persona'. It took a little time to achieve the look but the results were well worth the wait, if only I had him on hand for daily blow outs.

Here's the step by step guide to how to get the look:

"After shampooing, we towel dried hair to get all the excess water out; then put in Kerastase L'incroyable Blowdry product to create a smoother end result.

Once blowdry product is applied, we did a rough drying of the hair with the hair dryer. This first rough dry is utilizing your hands to comb through hair and no brush, bringing volume and lift with fingers at the root while drying.

The next step we took was blowdrying at the front of the hair line with separation of 2 inch pieces of hair, rolling and drying them out with the round brush and then rolling each section back and pining. We let these sections set for 10 minutes and then unpinned and let the curls fall, and finished off curls with a curling iron and spritz of Kerastase Laque Dentelle Micro Mist Fixing Flexible Hold Hair Spray for all day hold." -

No day at the salon is complete without a mini photo shoot, am I right?
