Easy Summer Beauty Look With Kohl's + Come Meet Me This Weekend in NYC
New Yorkers (and New Jersey residents) mark your calendars for July 15th! I’ll be hosting a summer beauty event at Caesar’s Bay Kohl's in Brooklyn during Kohl’s Semi-Annual Beauty Event from 11-2pm. The event kicks off a week of daily beauty deals on skincare, hair products, makeup, nails and more. Come in, chat with me and Kohl’s beauty consultants about beauty trends, get our makeup done, and check out what amazing products Kohl’s carries!
It’s going to be a blast, so I hope you can make it out...
Can’t make it, no worries! You can head into your local Kohl’s for one-on-one beauty consultations with a Kohl's Beauty advisor. Yep, now Kohl’s is officially a one-stop-shop destination for everything beauty, clothing & home. Now, if they could add groceries I can justify spending all of my time there.
In honor of the event, I thought it would be appropriate to put together an easy summer beauty look with some of my favorite beauty products from Kohl’s. Now that it is officially summer we’re all about that effortless glam look with minimal makeup. Or at least I am...
So, with heat and humidity in mind I put together a super simple look that will give you the glow you desire without having to worry about your face melting off in the 90 + degree weather during the next couple of months. I definitely played favorites with some of Kohl’s prestige brands, the Balm, Cargo and Butter London but that’s on the tip of the beauty iceberg in-stores and online. They have everything from Essie to Bliss and Pur to Lorac.
What I used:
Get The Look:
1. I started off with clean skin & a smidge of spf. Next, I took about a pea-sized amount of Cargo_HD Picture Perfect Foundation in 1N and applied to my face with a (lightly dampened) Real Techniques Sponge. Lightly pat until fully blended.
2. It’s all about adding color and definition to my face. With theBalm’s “theBalm Voyage Travel Palette” I lightly brushed the ‘Croeso’ bronzer and blended with the sponge. Then added the ‘Haun Ying’ blush and blended.
3. Now onto eyes! I didn’t want to go crazy with the layering of colors but still wanted a light smokey eye. I applied ‘Welcome’ from the theBalm’s “theBalm Voyage Travel Palette” and layered Bienvenue & Valkommen to add a little more definition. I used the Real Techniques 2-pc Eye Shade and Blend Brush Set- they’re a great set of brushes.
4. Next: liner and mascara. Since I can’t live without my cat-lined eye, it is an essential for the look and Cargo’s Liquid Eyeliner is amazing! I’m going back for 5 more, no joke. A quick line of the eye and a healthy dose of Cargo Boundless Lashes Mascara (also great!) and I’m onto lips.
5. I’m all about a neutral matte lip so theBalm’s Meet Matt(e) Hughes Liquid Lipstick was the front-runner on finishing the look. I love the staying power on this lipstick.
6. Finally for added glow, I lightly swept Kuwakaribisha from the theBalm’s “theBalm Voyage Travel Palette” across my temples and cheekbones.
Voila! Summer ready beauty without the extended effort and piles of makeup. From start to finish, this took about 15-20 minutes, which in my book is a major win.
Check out my favorite products and mark your calendars, jump on the train and come hang out with me from 11-2pm at Kohl’s - 8973 Bay Parkway, Brooklyn, NY 11214.

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Oil Swatches
This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Burt’s Bees for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
If you've been reading TfDiaries for a while you might already know that Burt’s Bees is one of my all time beauty favorites, particularly when it comes to the lip colors. Just about every one of the bags in my closet has the Sedona Sands lip crayon in it. That's not an exhaggeration. It's easily my go to and I honestly can't live without it. So, when Burt's Bees introduced me to their new Tinted Lip Oil line, it goes without saying I'd be on board to swatch all the colors in hopes of finding a new lippie favorite. Turns out it's hard to choose just one, they're all pretty great especially if you're looking for a sheer lip color. The Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Oil collection offers six sheer-coverage, moisturizing shades of lip oils made from Coconut and Meadowfoam Seed Oils to nourish lips sans the sticky residue you usually get with a lip gloss. It goes on smooth and has reasonably long lasting wear. My lips stayed moisturized long after the color was gone, so there's no complaints here. Like all Burt's Bees products they're 100% natural and sans parabens, phthalates, sodium laureth sulfate, and petrolatum. They currently are Available at Target and were on sale last week for about $7-something but I think the usual price is somewhere under $10, which is still on the reasonable side for a good makeup bag addition.
My only complaint is the twist pen brush applicator is a little tricky to use, but it could just be that I'm not used to using this kind of applicator (the oil clicks out the end of a long-ish brush). It takes a few clicks to get a more even amount of saturation on the brush for better distribution of color. Tip: It comes out a tiny bit goopy after the initial couple of clicks on the first application, so keep that in mind when gauging your love for the product. While the color goes on very sheer you can easily build up application to the desired coverage or add it to your favorite lipstick for a glossy tint. I will say the lip oil earned major bonus points for passing the wind and hair test! It surprisingly didn't get stuck to my lips after a few gusts of wind sent my hair straight across my face during shooting. Success!

Backstage Beauty: Christian Siriano Hair and Makeup Fall 2013
To coincide for Christian Siriano's A Night At The Russian Opera inspired opulent looks, the Aveda hair team created a tight, fishtail up-do to complement the dark matte black eyes, contoured features and soft lips created by Polly Osmond for M.A.C. The girl's hair received an extra little spritzing of the hair to the deep center part for an extra boost of shine beneath the runway lights, perfection if I do say so myself. I have a feeling we'll be seeing more fishtails in the near future, now if I could just perfect the braid on my own. As far as the end result of beauty goes the feathering of the lashes added an extra pop to the look, and each girl walked flawlessly down the runway in the incredibly adorned silhouettes Christian created, but that my friends, deserves it's very own post.

Backstage Beauty: MAC for Timo Weiland Fall 2013
Though it's chaos backstage and behind the scenes, there's always time to sit and chat about the inspiration when putting together a look for a collection. This time around I got to listen to Chantel Miller for MAC Makeup at the Timo Weiland Show, talk about the makeup details for the models. Inspiration was a young, groomed & tailored, lower east side girl.
And as a kind of spoiler alert for you MAC Makeup Lovers, You have to Watch The Video and see what's being released later this year. All I can say is you will Diiiiiieee!
5 Ways To Wear : Bold Lips
More often than not, I find myself reaching for bold lip colors, whether it's the classic reds or the fiery fuchsias and most recently watermelon and orange tones. Gone are the days of just wearing them for a night out on the town, and in are the days for making them work during the day. Here's 5 of my favorite ways to wear bold lips...
1. Casual With Deep Moroccan Red
One of my no fail rules for my self is "if wearing 'brights' in the day casual them down". It's the easiest way to pull off a bold lip without looking like you're trying too hard.
2. Contrasting With Classic Red
Like in this post, contrast is another great way to go, for example this classic red lip is perfect paired with the olive tone in this vest, giving just the right amount of pop with out looking overdone.

3. Lighten Up With Azalea
The more saturated sister of Fuchsia, Azalea is a perfect find for spring and summer. Since Azalea has somewhat different hues than it's sibling, it's best pairings are lighter neutrals (pastels too!), like this grey and white look. Wearing heavy dark lipstick and dark pieces in daylight looks too harsh in most cases, whereas going lighter on one end helps perk things up!
4. Play With Color and Hot Pink (Fuchsia)
There are times when a neutral just wont do when it comes to playing with one of my favorites, fuchsia, the surprisingly flattering lip color (and teeth whitener, thank you blue tones!). So of course I resort to playing with a little bit of color, whether it's a colorful scarf or a pair of snazzy shoes (this post) it always has a little bit more of a sparkle.
5. Watermelon (and Corals), The New Neutral
I'm just now giving in to orange tones, I was extremely weary before because they have the tendency to make even the whitest of white teeth look some what yellow, but I've found that watermelon (and most corals) aren't as harsh. They're actually quite neutral, I'd compare them to light pinks and even my nude lip gloss, easily worn with just about everything. Subtle, yet bold.
Happy Weekend, Xo.Pretty Pretty Pastel
I keep forgetting I have all these 'bed jackets' from last year sitting in my closet just begging to be worn with brights like these shoes and this amazing lipstick that I just can't seem to put down, ever. I'm so glad I didn't take this particular 'jacket' to goodwill because I'll be wearing this baby all summer long..
Bed Jacket LoveSquared, Shirt Ross, Jeans Elizabeth Grace, Shoes Shoemint, Bag Target, Jewelry Jewelmint
This Week...
Just flew on by, and with the holiday weekend coming up it brings hopes of actually getting work done around the house, we're moving glacial slow over here, we started the bench and some oversized floor pillows but it has tons of work, including back cushions (and perhaps lowering of the photos) to go..
