Staying on track with new routines isn't easy. Some not-so-great habits are just a little trickier to kick than others. For instance, my refusal to turn down a cupcake instantly comes to mind. We have our weaknesses and chocolate is easily mine. So, while I make the effort to keep things on the healthier side as I continue to track my activity with the Withings Steel watchI came up with 7 healthy snacks to keep me on track and motivated.

If you missed my first Withings Steel post, you have to check out this stylish, you’d-never-know-it’s-an-activity-tracker watch. Basically, it syncs up by Bluetooth on the Health Mate app to track your daily activity. Whether you're running, swimming, or getting your heart racing with a dance or Zumba class every morning, it is counting every calorie, step, and time. You can even sync it up to other Withings products like the Body Cardio scale and track your progress.

Go ahead and set goals for yourself on the app to see how many steps you can get in before the day ends or see how many calories that run actually burned. It's entirely up to you and how you want to use it for your lifestyle needs. I personally have been using it to track my daily steps and distance travelled, which is surprisingly a lot higher than I initially thought. Win and win.

As for snacking, I chose 7 super simple and delicious snacks that are good enough to feel like an indulgence but REALLY are actually quite helpful for your efforts to stay healthy.

 - Apple Slices + Nut Butter -
Slice up some apples, spread on the nut butter of your choice and sprinkle on some crunchy extras like sunflower seeds, chocolate chips (a few high-cacao content chocolate chips is way better than a piece of cake), and/or raisins. Get creative with your additions!
 -Smoothie Bowl-
Blend up some yogurt and fruit and serve in a bowl with granola, chia seeds and more fruit (click the title above for full recipe).
-Avocado Toast-
It's probably one of the easiest snacks to make, all you need is an avocado and the toast of your choice. I highly recommend sprinkling crushed red peppers but you can basically add whatever you want to top it.

Slice up an eggplant or zucchini, toss in panko and bake for an easy 'fry' alternative. (Click title above for full recipe)

Pasta and the veggies of your choice tossed in oil, vinegar, and the spices of your choice. Make ahead and eat anytime. (Click title for full recipe)

Lunch, Dinner, Snack, or on-the-go these are surprisingly addicting and only take a few ingredients to create. (Click title for full recipe)

Craving an ice cream sundae? This is a great alternative and hits the spot when the sweet tooth calls around 3pm. Go ahead, indulge in a few chocolate chips.

10 Ways To Get Yourself Moving Without Going To The Gym

30 January 2017

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Withings, part of Nokia. All opinions are 100% mine.

A new year means new beginnings, whether it's a change of diet, the effort to add more movement to your life, or even trying something new with your wardrobe. After 5 months of being somewhat stationary thanks to morning sickness and extreme fatigue, I am almost crazy to get myself moving as I (ahem) roll through the 6th month of my pregnancy and onward.

Of course, I'm getting a little help from Withings Steel watch. The stylishly sleek watch automatically syncs up with my Health Mate app to help track my steps, distance, and calories burned, as well as sleep monitoring. The watchband is available in 9 pretty sweet colors, but black is clearly my go to. The watch requires no charging so you can dance, run, and walk (even swim - it's waterproof too!) until your healthy little heart is content. I've been using the watch on a daily basis to see how many steps I take doing just my daily routine. Surprisingly enough, simple things like walking to the store, school pick up, and other walkable errands actually rack up some serious numbers. I average around 10,000+ steps daily from just those few errands throughout the day. So, I guess I don't feel as bad about spending those last few months on the couch getting through my 1st, and part of my 2nd, trimester.

The app is super user friendly and it's easy to set daily goals and follow along as you achieve them.  I've even come up with a handful of ridiculously easy tips for getting yourself moving without having to invest in a gym membership. Track it all with Withings Steel watch and you might surprise yourself with how much activity you actually have going on a daily basis. Don't forget to check out other Withings products like the Body Cardio Scale.

1. Walk More
Even if you're not in a walking city like New York you still can find easy ways to add more walking into your life. Park the furthest distance away in the parking lot at the mall or grocery store. Skip the handful of blocks on the train or the bus and walk the distance. Or simply just pick up the pace- instead of moseying along, add some speed to your step to get your heart rate up. It's recommended that you walk for at least 30 minutes every day.

2. Add Music
I don't know about you but music forces me to move. Who can stand still when just the right 90's pop icon songs come on? Add playlists to your day, it will be the quickest way to get you moving and break out some of those hidden dance moves that you forgot you knew (Truth: even the Elaine Benes dance can count as exercise).

3. Use The Stairs
If you're in a gigantic building, get off a few floors early and take the stairs the rest of the way. Or even take the stairs the whole way. Your thighs and butt will thank you later.

4. Do Your Own Housework
In the age of super reasonably-priced app-based housekeepers it's hard to turn down the luxury of having someone clean your house, but actually doing your own housework is a workout on its own. I mean, you know you feel the burn when you're scrubbing the tub and floors, right? Set a schedule and do a little every day, and really use your body while you're doing it. Have you ever done the twist standing on a towel to dry the floor? You might look crazy, but talk about a core workout! You just lay a dry towel on the floor, stand on it with both feet and with your waist, twist your feet back and forth so you move around the whole room, drying it as you go. Trust me, it's serious.

5. Walk To Get Your Morning Coffee Or Take Your Coffee Date To Go
Instead of staying home and waiting for your coffee to brew, take a quick walk to the closest coffee shop and grab a cup to go (and bring your own cup if you can to reduce waste). It starts off your morning with movement and you're rewarded with a caffeine kick. The same applies for coffee dates with friends, opt to take it to go and head out for a nice walk.

6. Work While Watching TV
If you're going to binge on an entire season of a show you might as well be a little productive by getting creative with exercises at the same time. Challenge yourself and see how many pushups, squats and/or lunges you can do during a commercial break. Sit upright or stand, and see if you can hold your arms out in a T until the commercial. Or try watching from an exercise ball to maintain your core and keep from becoming a couch potato. There are so many possibilities here: planks, back bridges, the list goes on.

7. Add Quick and Simple Exercises To Your Morning / Getting Ready Routine
You can easily get a few reps of squats in when brushing your teeth and giving your hair a once over with the styling wand. Throw in some lunges when you're getting dressed. Let's be real, those skinny jeans aren't going to stretch themselves out, you might as well add some lunges and squats to the mix when you're trying to wrangle yourself into them.

8. Use a Stand Up Desk
Do something that keeps you standing like your breakfast bar / counter at home. You're more likely to move around and maybe add in a few quick stretches while standing than sitting at a desk. Even taking time out every half hour to stand up from your desk improves circulation and reduces the risk of cardiovascular disease. But while you're at it, why not make it 20 squats?

9. Chase Your Kids OR Dog Around
Taking your kids and/or dog to the park? Chase them around for a little bit. They'll be thrilled and you basically get in a full on workout just by chasing them up the stairs and across the playground a few times.

10. Use an activity tracker
It's been proven that activity trackers, like with Withings Steel watch, actually help you move more. You set goals and most of the time go out of your way to achieve those extra steps. A couple of years back I was told by a celebrity personal trainer that in his experience, people who use activity trackers are more likely to burn calories than people who don't.

Print Swing Dress and Suede Jacket

Since the last week or so has been extremely mild when it comes to the weather, I decided that braving bare legs was the only way to go. I might as well take advantage of it while I can. And because It's been awhile since my last socks and heels pairing I brought these textured socks out to style with the burgundy (suedette) pumps. I can't but think it helps the printed dress and suede jacket pop even more with the added texture, even with the burgeoning baby bump. Who else is sock and heel obsessed?

    This Week

    27 January 2017

After spending most of January stationary courtesy of the flu I've found myself becoming more and more active as far as heading to events, getting things done and trying new things. This week was an excellent example of all of the above. If you've been following along with me on Instastories (@meganzietz) you might have spotted some of these already...

Here's what I've been up to this week...

A fresh blowout from Olivia Christiansen Salon booked with Lookbooker (get $10 off your first booking on the app!). This adorable salon on 48th street between 2nd and 1st Ave. I went with "The Bohemian" style which translated to loose, messy waves, my fave.

Next, Lunch with Scout Bags. Their new Spring collection launches today so head over and check out the new goodies. The 22 new patterns + 4 returning patterns + 3 new products will not disappoint.  The come in a ton of different textiles making them great for just about any job out there, even doubling as a diaper bag maybe? (Also, they're super affordable).

Plus, their lunch at Prune could not have been more perfect. If you're in the city, check out Prune and do yourself a favor and order the burger, it's heavenly.
Plus, homemade strawberry milk and oatmeal cookies - swoon.

At home: I updated the knobs on my tv stand. It's no huge feat but it definitely makes a difference.

And finally, Thursday's adventures. I started the morning off at the Active Collective Trade Show previewing upcoming collections from activewear brands. I immediately fell in love with all of the black and white printed sports bra and legging sets. Major swoon.

Finishing the day off at the Crate and Barrel Spa Day in their own little greenhouse in Bryant Park. Heavenly food, bouquets of crisp white flowers, massages, personalized aromatherapy all in honor of their Spring Collection. I'm in love with everything from the wall hanging to the furniture. I may not have room right this second but I WILL MAKE ROOM for these additions.

Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Oil Swatches

    24 January 2017

This is a sponsored post written by me on behalf of Burt’s Bees for IZEA. All opinions are 100% mine.
If you've been reading TfDiaries for a while you might already know that Burt’s Bees  is one of my all time beauty favorites, particularly when it comes to the lip colors. Just about every one of the bags in my closet has the Sedona Sands lip crayon in it. That's not an exhaggeration. It's easily my go to and I honestly can't live without it. So, when Burt's Bees introduced me to their new Tinted Lip Oil line, it goes without saying I'd be on board to swatch all the colors in hopes of finding a new lippie favorite. Turns out it's hard to choose just one, they're all pretty great especially if you're looking for a sheer lip color. The Burt's Bees Tinted Lip Oil collection offers six sheer-coverage, moisturizing shades of lip oils made from Coconut and Meadowfoam Seed Oils to nourish lips sans the sticky residue you usually get with a lip gloss. It goes on smooth and has reasonably long lasting wear. My lips stayed moisturized long after the color was gone, so there's no complaints here. Like all Burt's Bees products they're 100% natural and sans parabens, phthalates, sodium laureth sulfate, and petrolatum. They currently are Available at Target  and were on sale last week for about $7-something but I think the usual price is somewhere under $10, which is still on the reasonable side for a good makeup bag addition.

My only complaint is the twist pen brush applicator is a little tricky to use, but it could just be that I'm not used to using this kind of applicator (the oil clicks out the end of a long-ish brush). It takes a few clicks to get a more even amount of saturation on the brush for better distribution of color. Tip: It comes out a tiny bit goopy after the initial couple of clicks on the first application, so keep that in mind when gauging your love for the product. While the color goes on very sheer you can easily build up application to the desired coverage or add it to your favorite lipstick for a glossy tint. I will say the lip oil earned major bonus points for passing the wind and hair test! It surprisingly didn't get stuck to my lips after a few gusts of wind sent my hair straight across my face during shooting. Success!
