Blinding Brights

31 August 2011

I never thought I'd see my self in blinding brights, especially paired together. I wouldn't say I'm conservative but I've tended to lean toward either neutrals or black in the past, it's just more simple (and in my head, chic). But when I threw this pairing together it was love at first "bright".

Heart of Silver

As of late I've been digging on graphic tees in slouch form, my only current issue is that this was the perfect fit (and longer - which I wanted) until my grandmother washed it during our trip to NC...Oops. But it still works.

DIY: Braided Leather Wrap Bracelet

27 August 2011

Everyone has jumped on the arm party bus, which has us all DIY-ing like crazy, so of course I had to add my 2 cents in a quickie version of the craze. I opted for braided wrap bracelets because they're a little more feminine than some of the edgier pieces, plus they take maybe 5 minutes to make (which is ideal for my tight schedule between chasing children around and blogging/"working"). My version costs about $2 for 3 bracelets, opposed to the $8 for one.

Here's What You Need
Scissors
Leather/Suede Cording
Beading (Optional)
Wrap cord around wrist for desired length, then add an 1'' or 2'' for braiding. Don't cut the cord, measure desired length on same cord 2 more times.
Take the cord and loop it into knot, and then cut cord on bottom to give "strings" for braiding.
 Braid.Bead.Braid.
Knot the bottom of the braid to fit into loop.
 Add to arm party...
Easy Right?
Have fun with it...

How I Wore It: Sunglass Warehouse & Giveaway

Living in Florida has me spending the majority of my days wearing sunglasses, and I'm the kind of girl who finds a pair and doesn't stray, though every now and then I find a new pair that I love and just can't take off like black retro sunglasses, aviators and of course, my trusty cat eyes. So it's nice to go outside my comfort zone every now and then.

Thus when Sunglass Warehouse sent over their Round "Nerd" Sunglasses, I was quick to try something new. Upon their quick delivery, I found they were well made without looking cheap, and were quite retro indeed, perhaps Annie Hall-esque. The only problem is that they aren't so flattering on my current (post baby) face shape, but I will say after wearing them a couple times my husband noticed them and took them for himself. They look better on him anyways...
Now if you're not familiar with Sunglass Warehouse, they're a great sunglass inexpensive retailer with excellent customer service that provide hip and designer inspired styles to us shade lovers. Not to mention ways to pick the best "shades" based on your skin tone and/or face shape (which I will be doing next time).

Now for the Giveaway -

Sunglass Warehouse is giving one reader $20 to spend on the product of their choice...

How To Enter (2 entries)
1. Like Sunglass Warehouse on Facebook and/or
2. Follow Sunglass Warehouse on Twitter

Which must be done by September 2nd @ 11am.

Pink Lady

25 August 2011

I feel as if I've been slacking on holding my title as the "maxi queen" so even though I don't necessarily like to do two similar looks back to back I thought a girlish look might just fit the bill, only for title holding purposes ;).

Spot The Steal - Jessica Simpson "Match"

23 August 2011

Over the weekend I spotted a Cheapalicious post featuring Jessica Simpson's "Match" Pump and realized I'd seen something like it before and it wasn't the same as she listed, and as I racked my brain I finally remembered that I noticed them while picking out my 5 Dresses to Love from Lulu's. These "Steals" are also under $50 (and I believe are exactly the same, but with different price tags).

What do you think?

The Skinny

I've always had a fondness for black skinny pants and could never find the right fit, they always seemed to be a little 'loose' on me and it wasn't until recently when I started fitting back in to "real pants" that I dove into a box full of jeans sent over when I was pregnant and found my long lost pair of perfect black "skinnies".

Black Bean Brownies

21 August 2011

Sounds Odd, Right? Turns out they're amazing, my mother in law has gluten allergies so I'm always striving to find new "goodies" to bake her so this was a perfect fit. And though this batch didn't even make it to their visit this weekend. Blame goes to the toddler who sneakily snatched the bag off the counter and indulged, I will say I wasn't extremely mad since I knew he was getting protein and fiber.

Black Bean Brownies
3 Eggs
3 Tbsp Vegetable Oil
5 Tbsp Cocoa Powder
1 Tsp Vanilla Extract
Pinch of Salt
3/4 C Sugar ( I used 1/2)
1/2 C Chocolate Chips
1/2 C Chopped Walnuts
&
1 Can (15.5 Oz) Black Beans - Rinsed
Preheat oven 350 F and lightly grease 9x9 baking pan.

1. Combine black beans, eggs, oil, cocoa powder, salt, vanilla extract, and sugar in a blender, blending until smooth.
2. Stir in chocolate chips and walnuts, then pour mixture into baking dish.
3. Bake for 25 minutes (or until top is "dry").
4. Enjoy. I've found them to be very chocolatey and my husband says they resemble "Passover Brownies"....I might be assuming but I'm pretty sure black beans aren't involved in mentioned brownies.
